If you have any sort of personal circumstances you can discuss them with your study advisor/ academic counselors or one of the UT psychologists. You can reach your study advisor/ academic counselor by emailing them and the student psychologist through the Student Affairs Coaching & Counselling (SACC) in the Vrijhof (room 311). The SACC also offers student well-being courses, like performance anxiety or self-image training.

You can book an appointment with them via bms.planner.utwente.nl. Usually, you are able to book an appointment at short notice. Next to that, IEM academic counsellors have open hours during the break when you can just drop by with your questions or concerns. Cornelis on Tuesday and Ellen on Thursday (12:30-13:30).

Study Advisor well-being
Your first contact in the educational programme is your study advisor, who knows everything about the educational programme. However, if you would like to talk to somebody outside of your programme, for instance about personal matters that affect your study or personal life, the study advisor for student well-being (Mirjam Koehorst) is there for you. She is also available for help that requires multiple appointments, for example making and applying planning, thesis support, or bridging the time before you can get outside help.

Just like the study advisors from your programme, you can book an appointment with Mirjam via bms.planner.utwente.nl. On Thursday, Mirjam’s dog Hoppus will be at the office. If no meetings are planned, you can drop by to say hello to Hoppus (or Mirjam). Between 12:45 and 13:15 they will be out for Walking & Talking. All students are free to come along. The start is at the O&O square, in front of the Starbucks. For more information about well-being at BMS, and activities that are organized, you can visit the website Well-Being for Students.

Student psychologists

Student psychologists offer short-term, solution-oriented help with study problems and/or personal problems. You can come to them if, for example, you suffer from performance anxiety or procrastination, as well as sadness, anxiety, insecurity or family problems. All students at the University of Twente can use the services of the student psychologist. No referral is needed and it is free of charge. Please be aware they may have a waiting list.

Sexual violence

Sexual violence means all sexual acts that a person is forced to perform, undergo or witness. Sexual violence or harassment is quite common in the student age group. If you are/were a victim of sexual violence (sexual assault, rape) feel free to seek help or support because it is there. We know it takes real courage to take this step and hope this information will help you.

Confidential counsellors (staff) or confidential contact person (student)

In cases of undesirable behaviour or unequal treatment, the confidential counsellor acts independently of the UT and acts as a sounding board and mediator and also has a duty of confidentiality in this regard. The confidant does not judge or take decisions. The confidant can advise you or mediate between the conflicting parties, with or without the help of a third party.

If you would rather talk to a student it is possible to contact a confidential contact person. They are trained to be peer listeners and will keep everything you share completely confidential.

Alles Oké?" is a support line that offers support for anyone between the ages of 18 and 24 when things are not going so well. Chat or call (0800-0450) anonymously with a trained volunteer for a listening ear. Every day between 2 pm and 10 pm. Anonymous.
